Sigiriya

A royal palace on top of a 180-metre rock.

Overview

In the late 5th century CE King Kashyapa made this granite outcrop his capital. Visitors climb past landscaped water gardens, painted frescoes and the giant lion paws that once formed a gateway, to the palace ruins on the summit.
