Questions
What was happening in the Indus Valley when the pyramids were built?
When the Great Pyramid of Giza was finished around 2560 BCE, the Indus Valley Civilisation was entering its mature phase. Cities such as Mohenjo-daro and Harappa had planned streets, drains and standardised bricks.
Were Stonehenge and the pyramids built at the same time?
Partly. Stonehenge began as an earthwork around 3000 BCE, and its great sarsen stones were raised around 2500 BCE — within a century of the Great Pyramid.
Did ancient Rome and the Maya exist at the same time?
Yes. The Classic Maya period began around 250 CE while the Roman Empire still ruled the Mediterranean; the two never knew about each other.
Dates are the conventional approximate ranges used by historians; the start and end of any civilization is a gradual process, not a single year.
