Babylon

Capital of Hammurabi and Nebuchadnezzar II.

Overview

Babylon was a major city for well over a thousand years. It reached its greatest size under Nebuchadnezzar II in the 6th century BCE, when the glazed-brick Ishtar Gate was built. A reconstruction of the gate, made from excavated bricks, stands in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin.
