Borobudur

A Buddhist monument built as a walkable path to enlightenment.

Overview

Built in the 9th century, Borobudur is the world’s largest Buddhist monument. Pilgrims circle upward through galleries of carved panels that tell Buddhist stories, rising from the everyday world to the open terraces of bell-shaped stupas at the top.
