Knossos

The great palace of Minoan Crete.

Overview

Knossos was the largest centre of the Minoan civilization on Crete. Its multi-storey palace, with light wells, painted walls and storerooms of huge jars, was excavated from 1900 by Arthur Evans — who also restored parts of it in concrete, a choice still debated today.
