Mesa Verde

Ancestral Puebloan villages built into cliff alcoves.

Overview

Ancestral Pueblo people farmed the mesa tops here for centuries before building villages in the cliff alcoves during the late 1100s and 1200s. By about 1300 the region had been largely left behind, as communities moved south.
