Bronze Age UNESCO World Heritage Egypt

Pyramids of Giza

The last surviving Wonder of the ancient world.

Overview

The three great pyramids at Giza were built for the pharaohs Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure during Egypt’s Fourth Dynasty. Khufu’s Great Pyramid, completed around 2560 BCE, was the tallest human-made structure on Earth for almost four thousand years.

Excavations south of the plateau have uncovered the town where the builders lived, with bakeries, breweries and the tombs of workers and overseers.
